Wadestrant Jean-Baptiste, ThM
President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Port-au-Prince
Having served at STEP as a Professor since 2002 and later as Dean of Students, Wadestrant (Wawa) Jean-Baptiste brings to the presidency the heart of a servant, a love for students and a passion for discipleship.
Wawa received a Bachelor of Theology from STEP in 1997 and soon after traveled to the United States for studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). After receiving a Master of Theology with concentrations in Academic Ministry and Old Testament Studies from DTS in 2002, he returned to Haiti to join the faculty at STEP full-time. In addition to his duties as President, he continues teaching courses in the Poetic Books and Bible Background. He is also a current student in the Doctor of Ministry program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, USA.
After coming to Christ in December of 1986, he experienced significant persecution at the hand of his father, a Voodou priest. Soon after his conversion, his father kicked him out of the home and he was taken in and discipled by a missionary couple serving with Crossworld there in his community of Verettes. During this time he developed a desire to make disciples himself and began to sense a call to study Theology.
After many years of prayer, his father came to Christ in 2009. A year later, after the earthquake in 2010, his father asked him to plant a church in the very spot where he had practiced Voodou for so many years. Today an evangelical church exists in that place, pastored by a STEP graduate whom Wawa discipled.
Wawa and his wife Josette have been married for 15 years and they are the proud parents of two daughters. Together, they enjoy opening their home to students, allowing them to have an influence both inside and outside of the classroom.
